Thanks very much for the +watch! :3
I guess negatives get their light from one side and get scanned the other end, because they're transparent.. I should look into negative scanning some day, because there are thousands of negatves lying around here from my parents that are basically fading away, know any good brands?

Well theres dedicated negative scanners (Expensive but very good) and then flat beds that also do negative scanning (Decent to Shitty but cheap). Name brand is always good like Nikon and such. But were talking expensivie scanners then.
So do flatbed scanners just scan them like they're paper or is there a separate compartment for them? Because flatbed scanners aren't that amazing from what I've seen so far. In fact I'm quite honest to say they suck

Depends on the scanner itself. Some have a plastic inlay that you stick the negatives in and place on the scanner bed. Some have a attatchable light lamp that you place the negatives in and sit ontop of the film bed.
And the better scanners probably have a dedicated place where you insert a slide, right :? What kind of prices are we talking about anyway? 100 dollars? 200 dollars?

One more question though.. is there an easy way of identifying what the front and back of a slide is? because in a picture with only people and no text, it's impossible to tell 9 out of 10 times!
